PIH Health Works to Preserve History on Soon-to-Be Medical Office Building in Montebello

The former and historic Home Savings and Loan Building in Montebello will be turned into a PIH Health medical office building that will house an array of medical services. However, before it becomes a medical facility much preservation work has been conducted to safeguard the historical significance of the structure, including preserving the two-well known artworks:

  • a stained glass window, “The Carousel,” designed by Susan Hertel and fabricated by John Wallis and Associates on the south façade, and
  • a mosaic mural designed by Millard Sheets and executed by Nancy Colbath on the building’s north façade.

Preservation work includes cleaning and repair of the building's exterior travertine marble and gold tile decoration. Art conservation work includes cleaning, grouting and repair of the mosaic, and cleaning and repair of the leaded glass window. Preservation Arts is completing the conservation work, which began in early December 2013. This work is expected to be completed by mid-January. PCR Services is providing project oversight for the conservation work, and is also developing the interpretive exhibit to beautify the interior and protect the building's important art, architecture and history.

PIH Health purchased the building located at 2205 West Beverly Blvd, Montebello in May 2011 and expects to open late Fall 2014.
