Family Medicine Residency - Downey Curriculum

Internal Medicine:

9 months required over 3 years = 5 months as OGME1, one month each year as OGME2 and OGME3.

– Allergy and Immunology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Neurology, Oncology, Pulmonology, and Rheumatology

M6 (Inpatient resident supervisor):

3 months = 1 month as OGME2, 2 months as OGME3

Pediatrics:

5 months total over 3 years

- One month outpatient in community clinic each year = 3

– One month of inpatient medicine at Long Beach Millers Children’s Hospital in OGME1 and OGME2 years = 2

Emergency Medicine:

3 months = one month each year

OB/GYN:

4 months over 3 years

– One month inpatient/outpatient OB as OGME1, one month outpatient GYN as OGME1 = 2

– One month of outpatient OB/GYN in OGME2 and OGME3 year = 2

Family Practice:

At least 6 weeks

– 2 weeks as OGME2, 4 weeks as OGME3

– plus continuity clinic = minimum 40 weeks per year –> 4 half days per week –> minimum 340 half days over 3 years = minimum of 1650 patient visits over 3 years

Surgery:

5 months total over 3 years

– 2 months inpatient surgery as OGME1

– one month of ambulatory surgery as OGME2

– 2 months of the following (one as OGME2, one as OGME3): ENT, Opthalmology, Orthopedics, Urology

Elective/Selective:

5 months = one as OGME1, 2 each year as OGME2 and OGME3

Community Medicine/Mental Health:

One month as OGME3

Rural (Avalon on Catalina):

One month as OGME3

Sports Medicine: 2 weeks with Dr. Vance Eberly

Geriatrics:

One month

Internal Medicine: 5 months

– 1 month ICU Dr. Yasmeen Shaw

– 2 months with Dr. Sharafi inpatient service

- 2 months Pioneer Medical Group

Surgery: 2 months of inpatient surgery

Elective: One month

ER: One month

Pediatrics: 2 months

– One month at Long Beach Millers Children’s Hospital

– One month of Outpatient Pediatrics

OB/GYN: 2 months

– One month of inpatient/outpatient OB

– One month of outpatient GYN
