Cancer Care

When you are diagnosed with or have cancer, you want a lifelong healthcare partner you can trust to help you fight it. The PIH Health Comprehensive Community Cancer Program has been a leader in cancer care for over 35 years. From screening and prevention to treatment, recovery and support, our dedicated oncology (cancer) team puts you at the center and surrounds you with all the care you need.

Expert Cancer Care Close to Home

Choose us for comprehensive, skilled and compassionate cancer care—the same level of care you’d expect to find at every major medical center—in one nearby location and with a more personal touch. Our cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. These and other recognitions mean we go above and beyond in caring for you. It also means you have access to the latest technology, treatments and research.

Commission on Cancer Accreditation

Commission on Cancer Accreditation

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons has granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to the cancer program at PIH Health. To earn CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet or exceed 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

CoC accredited facilities diagnose and/or treat more than 70 percent of all newly diagnosed cancer patients. When cancer patients choose to seek care locally at a CoC accredited cancer facility, they are gaining access to comprehensive, state-of-the-art cancer care close to home.

How We Treat Your Cancer

We treat virtually all cancers in adults, including breast, colorectal, gastrointestinal, kidney, leukemia and blood-related cancers, lung, lymphoma, prostate, thyroid and many others. Once your cancer is diagnosed, our board-certified oncologists (doctors who are cancer specialists) work with you to develop your personal treatment plan. We may combine one or more of the following treatments to fight your cancer in the best possible way:

We also offer many support services—from lymphedema care to cancer support groups—to help with all aspects of your cancer journey.

At PIH Health, doctors from various specialties collaborate on your cancer care. At weekly cancer conferences, they review each patient’s treatment plan and progress and discuss various treatment options.

Clinical Trials

You have access to a wide range of clinical research trials, including treatments and therapies not yet widely available. Participation in clinical trials helps in developing new approaches to managing cancer. Through our relationship with the Radiation Oncology Therapy Group (RTOG) and the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), we participate in multiple cancer clinical trials, including those conducted by the University of California, Davis and UCI Medical Center, Irvine. To learn more about clinical trials, call the PIH Health Clinical Trials Office at 562.698.0811 Ext. 12930.

Cancer Registry

As part of our Commission on Cancer accreditation, PIH Health maintains a comprehensive cancer database. This information is an invaluable tool in the fight against cancer both locally and nationally. It also helps us compare our performance with other cancer programs across the country. Using the Registry means we can better monitor our cancer patients and provide annual lifetime follow-up. For more information, call 562.698.0811 Ext. 12896.
