Helping You Manage Diabetes

The Diabetes Education Center at PIH Health helps you find out how to manage your diabetes, take good care of your own health and live well with any of these conditions:

Our free programs are open to anyone in our community with any type of diabetes. In addition, our diabetes educators can help you make a smooth transition from medical care in the hospital to taking care of yourself at home.

Compassionate Diabetes Experts

Rely on our well-trained, compassionate medical professionals and registered dietitians who are certified diabetes educators. You benefit from our many years of experience in working with people who have diabetes, as well as our commitment to the high national standards set for experts in diabetes education.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognizes our program as one that meets our community’s need for diabetes self-management training to improve quality of life. The California Department of Public Health supports our efforts to care for diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes) and recognizes us as a Sweet Success registered provider in the California Diabetes and Pregnancy Program.

Comprehensive Diabetes Education Programs

Take advantage of the many ways our diabetes education programs can help you stay on a healthy path. When you’re ready to get started, give us a call. We’ll let you know about the specific requirements for each program before your first visit.

  • Sweet Success focuses on caring for diabetes during pregnancy.
  • Comprehensive Diabetes Self-Management provides an individual consultation and a three-session class series with regular follow-up visits lasting between three and nine months to help you maintain your gains.

PIH Health Diabetes Education Center programs include:

  • Customized care and individual visits with our Diabetes Educator – Meets your specific needs for managing medications, nutrition and diet, disease monitoring, and overall care
  • Glucose monitoring – Gives you a device to measure sugar levels in your blood each day and teaches you how to use it correctly
  • Hemoglobin A1C monitoring – Measures long-term levels of glucose in the blood; completed during your regular office visit
  • Diabetes skills training – Helps you learn good self-care methods; available through the PIH Health Physicians Medication Management and Endocrinology Clinic
  • Classes on a variety of diabetes-related topics, including prediabetes and advanced diabetes, among many others
  • Health fairs and presentations at locations throughout our community
  • Free blood glucose screenings on Fridays
  • Referrals to local social service agencies for various types of assistance to help you care for yourself

Classes and Events

Check our online calendar for a complete list and current schedule of classes, support groups, health fairs and lectures. Classes are available in both Spanish and English. Pre-registration is required.
