Ebola Preparedness Efforts

Los Angeles County does not have any confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (Ebola) in the county. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) has identified four tertiary facilities that would accept these patients should the need arise.

At PIH Health, our goal is to protect our patients, staff and community. PIH Health is prepared to perform medical screenings of patients with infectious disease. This screening includes a brief medical history, detection of any symptoms of illness and – with the emergence of Ebola – a travel history. PIH Health will adhere to the guidance issued by the LACDPH to contact the Acute Communicable Disease Control (ACDC) to confirm and facilitate the transfer of any patient suspicious of, or diagnosed with Ebola.  We are continually reviewing and updating our plan so that we remain in alignment with all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations.

For more information, please visit the CDC website at: http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/index.html, where additional Ebola information can be found.

ER Services for Our Community

Choose us for comprehensive emergency services and specialized capabilities, including:

  • Heart Receiving Center – As a designated STEMI Receiving Center for Los Angeles County, our team is specially trained and equipped to respond quickly to chest pain and potential heart attacks.
  • Stroke Receiving Center – Our certification as a Primary Stroke Center recognizes our efforts to provide immediate intervention to people who may be experiencing stroke.
  • Pediatric Emergency Care – We’re certified as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) facility. This means we have team members specially trained to care for children and to use life-saving methods such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) – We provide a safe, private examination room where victims of sexual assault can be examined, counseled and comforted by a specially trained forensic nurse, away from the public glare of an emergency room.
  • Disaster Resource Center (DRC) – We have been designated by LA County EMS as one of 13 countywide Disaster Resource Centers.  PIH Health Hospital is prepared to coordinate the emergency response activities of 10 area hospitals in the event of a large-scale public health emergency.
  • Paramedic Base Station – We provide medical direction and training for paramedic teams and oversee the management of EMS calls in Los Angeles County.
