Getting FIT Together

Girl sitting by her trampolineMore and more families are realizing that getting fit can be done as a team. Diana Vasquez, a Pico Rivera resident, attended a three-week Families in it Together (FIT) program with her mother and seven-year-old daughter, Sophia.

After noticing some issues with Sophia’s weight, Diana consulted with her daughter’s Pediatrician’s office. A nurse practitioner recommended PIH Health’s FIT program, which helps parents and kids (ages six to 15) explore ways to increase physical activity and make healthier food choices.

“Our instructor was energetic and insightful, delivering enough information that the children could understand, while also equipping us parents and caregivers like my mom to make impactful changes,” said Diana. “He also provided hands-on demonstrations, cooking tips and recipes. My daughter looked forward to the classes.”

Today, Sophia is more excited than ever to try new foods and activities and has even joined a hip-hop class. She makes better choices for school lunches and after school snacks; she now chooses to take water to school instead of juice.
