What You Can Do With an Extra Hour of Daylight

man and woman with bikesNow that the sun is setting later in the day, here are some ideas for exercising outdoors.

Have you spent most of the winter putting off exercising because you just can’t bear to get on the treadmill or head to the gym? If so, the extra daylight available thanks to the changing seasons and the arrival of daylight savings time may be just the boost you need to get moving. Here are a couple of benefits associated with exercising outdoors:

So what can you do outdoors now that the sun is still shining when you get home from work?

Here are 5 ideas that can improve your physical and mental health while you enjoy some fresh air:

  1. Have a ball. Enjoy a casual catch with your kids or try to perfect your lay-up on the basketball court.
  2. Dust off a racquet. Grab a friend and head to an outdoor court for a game of tennis or racquet ball.
  3. Enjoy the playground. Feel like a kid again as you go up and down the slide, traverse the monkey bars or pump your legs while on a swing.
  4. Get on your bike. There’s nothing like the wind rushing through your hair at the end of a long day. Biking is a low-impact exercise that gets your heart pumping.
  5. Take a walk. Lace up your shoes and go for a spin around the neighborhood or head to an interesting sight around town. You can do this alone, with a friend or even with your dog.
