PIH Health’s Comprehensive Community Cancer Care Program Hosted Its First Ever Cancer Survivorship Picnic at Palm Park in Whittier, California
Whittier, Calif. (June 23, 2026) — PIH Health Cancer Care hosted its first ever Cancer Survivorship Picnic at Palm Park in Whittier, California. Cancer survivors, their families, and PIH Health Cancer Program staff members celebrated together in honor of National Cancer Survivor’s Day, which takes place each year on the first Sunday in June. Music was provided by DJ Bryan Mejia, and food vendors included Los 3 Tesoros Catering and Rita’s of Brea.
The Cancer Survivorship Picnic is a unique event bridging the gap between PIH Health and the communities they serve, offering opportunities for health education, partnership, and positive impact. Over fifty PIH Health patients and their family members were able to enjoy a day of health education, food, music, live performances, and raffles.
“Cancer survivors are part of a community that is often overlooked and underappreciated,” says Nina Solis, the Cancer Survivorship Nurse Navigator in the PIH Health Cancer Program, “We want to highlight their resilience and unique needs, and remind them that they are more than their diagnosis. This is also an opportunity to better meet the needs of the Whittier community through connection and health education.”
When we think of a cancer survivor, often we imagine someone years out of their treatment, but survivorship starts the moment of a cancer diagnosis. Each moment we are alive, we are surviving through the good, bad, difficult, and joyful moments of our lives. The Cancer Survivorship Picnic brought a sense of fun and joy into the lives of those impacted by cancer and offered the chance for community members to celebrate resilience, hope, and life beyond cancer.
