PIH Health’s Comprehensive Community Cancer Care Program Hosted Its First Ever Cancer Survivor Art Showcase At The Whittier Art Gallery In Whittier, California
Los Angeles, Calif. (January 28, 2026) — PIH Health Cancer Care hosted its first ever Cancer Survivorship Art Showcase in Whittier, California. The Whittier Art Gallery partnered with PIH Health for the showcase, where the gallery displayed works of art created by cancer survivors from Wednesday through Saturday, January 7-10, 2026.
Eighteen artists participated and 44 works of art were displayed, including photography, writing, crochetwork, paintings, embroidery, sketch, and craftwork. On Saturday evening, Jan. 10, a private showing allowed survivors to perform music, read their original poetry, and share about their journeys through PIH Health Cancer Care to an audience of family members, loved ones, and Cancer Program staff. Guests were asked to leave notes of inspiration for the survivors and to other patients currently going through treatment.
When we think of a cancer survivor, often we imagine someone years out of their treatment, but survivorship starts the moment of a cancer diagnosis. Each moment we are alive, we are surviving through the good, bad, difficult, and joyful moments of our lives.
“There are now more people living with cancer as a chronic condition or have survived cancer than ever before,” says Ken Endo, the Clinical Director of the PIH Health Cancer Program, “The healing process continues long after the treatment has finished. The disease may have been removed and the scars fade but a survivor’s journey goes on. We want to help these brave souls in their road to recovery by focusing on their mind, body, and spirit, and the Art Showcase is one such program to help in that healing process. It is a chance for patients to express themselves, to exclaim that they are not defined by their cancer, to celebrate the life that is so fragile, and know they have overcome the adversity. Nina Solis, our Cancer Survivorship Nurse Navigator developed this showcase to help in their healing journey, and we are all grateful for it.”
Art can come in many forms, and can be a source of peace, hope, and healing for anyone going through difficult times. While everyone who contributed to the showcase is a cancer survivor, these artists are more than their diagnoses. They are siblings, spouses, parents, friends, and creators - and they all have an important story to tell. The Cancer Survivorship Art Showcase allowed them the space to tell these stories through the power of creativity and community.
