PIH Health Whittier Hospital Honored with Stage 6 Recognition by HIMSS Analytics

Honor Demonstrates PIH Health’s Commitment to Patient Care via its Technology Investments

PIH Health Whittier Hospital’s achievements in technology have earned the distinction of Stage 6 by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics on the EMR Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM). Only 16.5% of hospitals in the nation carry this designation.

HIMSS analytics evaluates the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals. EMRAM includes eight stages (0-7). Stage 6 hospitals have established clear goals for improving safety, minimizing errors and prioritizing information technology implementations. Some of the criteria met by Stage 6 hospitals include:

  • Significant executive commitments and investments
  • Substantial advantage over competitor for patient safety, clinician support and recruitment, and competitive marketing for both consumers and nurse recruitment
  • Nearly fully automated/paperless medical records after electronic software have been implemented
  • Made investments that are within reach of most hospitals

Stage 6 hospitals are at the forefront of electronic health records (EHR) adoption. This recognition is an important indicator that the hospital delivers high-quality patient care.

“This honor, together with our recognition as a “Most Wired Hospital” by Hospitals & Health Networks demonstrates the commitment that PIH Health has made to patient quality, safety, and efficiency through the investment in and use of technology,” said Chief Administrative Officer Peggy Chulack.

Stage 6 hospitals have achieved a significant advancement in their information technology capabilities that positions them to successfully address many of the current industry transformations, such as meaningful use criteria in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
