PIH Health Earns National Award for its Cancer Services

Award Recognizes Cancer Programs that Achieve Excellence in Providing Highest-Quality Care to Cancer Patients

PIH Health's Comprehensive Community Cancer Program at its Whittier campus has earned the Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) as a result of the survey performed during 2013. The PIH Health Whittier Hospital Comprehensive Community Cancer Program is one of a select group of 74 accredited cancer programs across the United States to receive this national honor for surveys performed last year.

"It is an honor to once again be recognized by the Commission on Cancer for providing a wide spectrum of high-quality cancer diagnostic, treatment and support services for patients and their families" said Nathan Honda MD, medical director of the PIH Health Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. "This award is a testament of our commitment to provide outstanding cancer care to our community."

The Comprehensive Community Cancer Program at PIH Heath Hospital - Whittier is an acknowledged regional center of Excellence for cancer services in southeast Los Angeles and north Orange County. The cancer program has a renowned team of cancer specialists, radiation oncologists, hematologists and oncologists, colorectal surgeons, gynecological surgeons, breast surgeons, reconstructive surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and ancillary staff.

Established in 2004, the CoC OAA is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing high-quality care to cancer patients. The purpose of the award is to raise awareness on the importance of providing quality cancer care at healthcare institutions throughout the United States.

PIH Health Whittier Hospital has received this honor since its inception in 2004.
