PIH Health Recognizes Its Volunteers in Honor of National Volunteer Week

In honor of National Volunteer Week, PIH Health recognizes the vital role volunteers play to promote patient engagement and quality care.

“Our volunteers are an integral part of PIH Health, and we are grateful for the time and efforts they give to support our Patients First vision,” says James R. West, president and CEO of PIH Health. “Their contributions are noticed every day, and their services are valued by patients, visitors and staff.”

PIH Health averages approximately 696 volunteers who give generously of themselves every week at our campuses in Whittier and Downey. To date, there are more than 138 volunteer opportunities throughout the organization. Volunteers support a variety of patient-related and non-patient service areas such as crafts and sewing groups, surgery waiting lobby, events, gift shops, pet therapy, music therapy and hospice. PIH Health volunteers range in age from 16 to 93.

“It is an honor to work with such giving, generous individuals,” says Helen Simpson, manager of Volunteer Services, PIH Health. “This time of year is the perfect opportunity for us as an organization to show them how much they truly are appreciated.”

PIH Health celebrated its volunteers with a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, April 12 at the Doubletree Hotel in Norwalk.

PIH Health has open volunteer opportunities at both hospital campuses. For more information on how to become a volunteer, please visit PIHHealth.org/Volunteer.
