The Commission on Cancer Grants PIH Health Accreditation with Commendation

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) has once again granted a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to the Comprehensive Community Cancer Program at PIH Health Hospital - Whittier.

The Accreditation Program, a component of the CoC, sets quality-of-care standards for cancer programs and reviews the programs to ensure they conform to the standards. Accreditation by the CoC is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. To maintain accreditation, CoC-accredited cancer programs must undergo an on-site review every three years.

PIH Health received accreditation with commendation following an on-site evaluation in August 2019. During the survey, PIH Health demonstrated a commendation level of compliance with all 6 of the commendation standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program, including clinical research accrual, cancer registry education, public reporting outcomes, oncology nursing care, rapid quality reporting system (RQRS) participation, and accuracy of all data submissions.

“We are truly honored to be recognized by the Commission on Cancer for the scope of high-quality healthcare provided by PIH Health’s clinicians and physicians in our cancer program,” said Nathan Honda MD, medical director of the PIH Health Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. “Once again receiving a three-year accreditation reinforces our ongoing commitment to provide outstanding cancer care to the community.”
