Andrew Nguyen MD MBA is board-certified physician, who specializes in gastroenterology, hepatology and colon cancer prevention. After earning his doctorate at the George Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Nguyen completed his internship and residency at UC Riverside School of Medicine and received extensive gastroenterology and hepatology training at the University of Utah Health.

Volunteerism is very important to Dr. Nguyen—it’s how he was raised. He pursued a career in medicine as an opportunity to serve his community. Dr. Nguyen is especially drawn to internal medicine and the hands-on interventions that occur in the GI specialty.

“I enjoy the complexity of various cases and endoscopic procedures,” Dr. Nguyen explains. “My patients are unique, and I listen to them to understand how to treat them as a whole person.”

Outside the clinic, Dr. Nguyen likes to spend time with his family and travel. He follows the Lakers closely and enjoys watching and playing sports of all kinds.

Everyone at PIH Downey were very attentive and respectful to my wants, needs and wishes from the first person that checked me into the department,for my colonoscopy, down to the person that wheeled me to my sister's car. The nurses and doctors on staff that day made my procedure that more pleasant. Thank you for always putting the patient first.

Hello, I went in for a follow-up checkup. I asked the scheduler if I'm to take a blood test and a fecal test and they said no. I had to reschedule. So when I called back again, I said, are you sure I don't need a blood or fecal test as I'm doing a follow-up and I'm not sure what the doctor and I are going to talk about? I get to the doctor's office. He asks me questions, basically the same as before, the colonoscopy, and then he goes, okay, well, we need a blood and fecal test. And I said, well, how can that be right? I called your office twice and twice they told me no, I don't need it. One person even put me on hold to confirm I didn't need it. And now I'm an hourly employee and now I have to take time off of work to go pick up the kit, to do the fecal test, and then I have to go back and drop it off. So time wasted. I did not appreciate that at all. Thank you.

I liked when you first went in the friendliness and walking into the office, getting all my information. She was so friendly. I don't know her name. Very, very caring person. And I absolutely adored my doctor because I'm very picky about doctors because I came to him because the doctor I had before, I had no respect for him. So I definitely, if I have to come back, I will definitely come back to this office and I definitely will recommend the office. Thank you. Bye.

I think I was pleasantly surprised with the service that I was provided given that it kind of took me a year to schedule it and that wasn't not necessarily anyone's fault. I just, they've given me the recommendation to have a call on October a year ago. I thought they were going to contact me so there was a little bit of confusion and then the second time around there was a little bit of that confusion as well. But all in all, it turned out to be a great experience for sure.

Location of PIH services is tortuous. From Mammogram, Bone Density, and Colonoscopy tests. The buildings are so difficult to locate without a map and signs for buildings and roads. From my age 30 to 80. Failure. Dr. Andrew Nguyen was great. He has a nice personality and provides a clear explanation for his diagnosis. Unfortunately, I must hope to never see him again. This young doctor is a fortunate addition to your staff. (PHI removed)

Doctor took his time to explain to me what my concerns were about the colonoscopy, about anything that I had to worry about for the future and how long I had to wait to get retested because everything came out good and I was concerned because of the problems I had and he explained to me everything very well and I appreciate that.

My appointment was with Dr. (name removed), but without consulting me, I was seen by another doctor. I don't like that way of treating a patient, so I don't plan to continue with PIH.

Hi, I just wanted to leave a message and say, you know, from the very, very beginning of check-in all the way till they were wheeling me out back to the car after the procedure, I have never experienced such impeccable and just stellar bedside manner and service and I want to congratulate everyone there for, I mean, I just couldn't have expected any more and I do have high expectations. So I want to say thank you and hopefully, you know, this will hopefully this can go on file for them. They were just outstanding, absolutely outstanding. Thank you.

What I liked was that he didn't give me a completely definitive diagnosis. He did tell me what I had, but he wants to be more certain, so he ordered more tests and is going to request more and more things that I need, more tests and more medical attention.

The staff were very friendly, and the doctor in particular was attentive. He explained very patiently that there is a minimal wait, but it's normal because there are patients who arrived before you, but as I said, the wait is short.

I had a colonoscopy performed, yet the printout of the prep for the colonoscopy was totally different than what the doctor wanted done. For instance, it didn't say to fast for 36 hours, the printout. The printout even stated I could have a light breakfast the day of the procedure. I didn't, but I had eaten the day before at 1 p.m. So now the provider said that he needs to repeat the whole colonoscopy because the prep wasn't done correctly, which I think is very, very, very unfair because it is not very easy to drink that stuff. And had he said to fast, I would have fasted.

Everything was mostly a great experience. The only thing that is disappointing is that insurance companies/board of directors seem to be running the patient care instead of the medical professionals. This is happening everywhere. Doctors, whether specialists or PCP's are given tight time constraints with the patients. The patient has no time to provide a background to the medical professionals as to why and how the patient arrived in the condition they are seeing the doctor in the first place. I have a lot of history that they need to know so they can make informed decisions about care. But every doc I've visited in the past 10/15 years has 11 to 20 minutes to see and evaluate the patient, get paperwork done, and move like robots all day long, with time limited fragmented histories. I think it's time for the board rooms to get out of the exam rooms and let the doctors do what they need to do.

Setting appointment was a nightmare waiting for appointment was crazy but the only positive was the staff you have at the hospital was amazing from intake to pre op to post op every single person nurses doctors and staff I would rate a 10 plus. Very friendly and seemed to enjoy what they did.

I found this doctor's office to be very unorganized. I wasn't impressed at all. I waited over a year to visit this doctor. I filled out the registration online, called the day before I went to make sure everything was ready, they had all my information, and I was quickly told, oh yes, oh yes, of course. They always get it prepped before the, patient comes. When I got there, they didn't show that I was registered. And when I got in the office, they kept on asking me questions that were in my medical file. And they had not pulled my medical file like I was told that they had. I waited over a year to get in, and they were not prepared for me. They actually walked over to my regular doctor, Dr. (name removed) office, and pulled the paperwork while I was in the office. No, I would not. I don't even feel comfortable about getting the scope done with this doctor, to be honest with you.

Well, the doctor said he was going to call in a prescription for me, as did the other one, the PA or whatever positions, (name removed). And she didn't call it in either, so neither one called it in, but I've been expecting it. I called the office today. They're going to put a question out to find out about it, I guess. So anyway, that's my response. Thank you.
