Ashwin Ashok MD has been with PIH Health since 2013. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and completed his fellowship at Harbor-UCLA and the University of New Mexico. Currently, he serves as the Section Chief for Gastroenterology at PIH Health Whittier Hospital and as the Chair of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Ashok developed his keen interest in medicine at a young age. Medicine is “a family tradition” with a father who was a surgeon and a grandfather who was a family practitioner.
He works with patients to manage their general gastrointestinal and hepatology issues such as colorectal cancer screening, GERD, cirrhosis and chronic liver disease, Barrett’s esophagus, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and other general GI issues. He completed an extra year of training in advanced endoscopy which allows him to manage complex polyps and perform endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
Dr. Ashok is a lifelong UCLA Bruins, Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers fan. He lives in a house divided, as his wife went to the University of Southern California.
