Emanuela Bonfoco MD PhD is a board-certified family medicine physician with a PhD in neuroscience from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and completed her Family Medicine residency at PIH Health Whittier Hospital.  She is passionate about providing comprehensive care to patients across all stages of life—from newborns to seniors. This breadth of practice and the opportunity to serve entire families with continuity and compassion drew her to the family medicine specialty.

Within family medicine, Dr. Bonfoco has developed special expertise in women's health and urgent care. Her background in hospital medicine and research distinguishes her approach to patient care, as she brings a depth of clinical experience to every patient encounter. Each day, she tries to make meaningful differences in her patients' lives, whether by managing chronic conditions, addressing acute concerns, or supporting preventive health.

Originally from Italy, Dr. Bonfoco has called the United States home for over 20 years, bringing a unique cultural perspective to her practice. Outside of medicine, she finds balance through swimming and cooking.

Great Doctor really listened and was quick and efficient with my care. The front desk staff was lovely and welcoming.

Dr was nice, but communication was difficult. Her accent was very difficult to understand. During my appointment she kept telling me to wait so she could understand me and type. I didn't mind but it could have been a bit smoother if we understood each other.

Lack in communication, I couldn't understand her heavy accent. She wrote down 3 inhalers for me and only received one at the pharmacy.

This was my first visit as a patient and when I originally called to schedule an appointment I told the representative that I wanted to schedule a physicial and the appointment was scheduled. When I got to office, I was asked what the appointment was for and I informed the front desk that it was for a phsyicial. I was told that it wasnt scheduled as a physicial because it was my first time there and that it was scheduled as a new patient consult. Not once was I told this when I called to schedule the appointment. I assumed it was a physicial because they just continued with my request to schedule the appointment and I informed them that the reason I needed to be seen was for a physicial. I feel like this should be important information to tell new patients when scheduling an appointment.

This was my first visit to Dr. Bonfoco's office. I met her and her staff on June 9th, and they all were welcoming and very nice. I was made to feel comfortable, and I was glad that I had chosen Dr. Bonfoco as my new primary physician.

I originally scheduled my appointment with Dr. (name removed) and the scheduling department did not tell me that my appointment was not with her. At no point was I aware that I had been scheduled with another doctor until I arrived and began intake. So I was not happy to have been blindsided with that. Otherwise, Dr. Bonfoco was very nice. I did feel very rushed. Like she was trying to get through my appointment very quickly. She listened to my concerns, but at one point she was actively like trying to leave the room and that made me a little uncomfortable. But otherwise, she was nice and very helpful.

The doctor had a UC Irvine medical student with her during my visit. I don't recall her name but the student was really wonderful and personable! She make me feel extra comfortable during my first time establishing care visit. Dr. B was really kind and explained care plan very well. Thank you!
