Erika Abueg DO is a family medicine practitioner with subspecialties in women's health and geriatrics. After earning her medical degree, she completed her residency at PIH Health Whittier Hospital, where she completed an academic track in the treatment of tropical diseases that consisted of extra training in Sierra Leone. At the conclusion of her residency, Dr. Abueg received the 'Above and Beyond the Call of Duty' award from the PIH Health Family Medicine Residency Staff.

Born to parents who both worked in healthcare, Dr. Abueg felt a natural draw toward a career in medicine. She says she also wanted to educate others on the value and importance of health and wellness.

"I chose family medicine as a specialty so I would have the opportunity to build lasting relationships with my patients," she explains. "I also want to be able to care for multiple generations within a family."

One of Dr. Abueg’s strength is her ability to build trust and rapport with patients. Family medicine allows her to see a variety of patients and concerns throughout the day, making every day interesting and fulfilling. She loves solving acute problems and managing chronic diseases to help her patients get better. She also likes to see patients gain more confidence in taking care of their own health.

In her free time, Dr. Abueg enjoys hiking with her dogs, exercising and playing board games with friends.

Seemed that the nurse that took my vitals was having a bad day? When I didn't hear her clearly and asked what was said, she responded with a bit of attitude. I guess repeating herself was troublesome. Mind you, she was asking me something while she took off the arm band, I couldn't hear anything other than velcro being pulled.

Hi, so my name is (PHI removed). I saw Dr. Erica Abueg regarding some swelling I was having in my ankles and I was hoping that she was going to order some lab work, you know, just to check, make sure everything was looking okay, but she had seen that I had lab work done in June and she said that my liver panel and kidney lab looked fine in June, so there really wasn't a point in doing lab work. But the thing is, I'm going in to see her this day for swelling in the ankles that had been just occurring in the last few weeks and you know just knowing that this could be signs of congestive heart failure or kidney disease, liver disease, I was concerned and I didn't want to like step on her toes or say hey well don't you think I need some lab work done since those that you're seeing in the

I met Dr Abueg when she was a Resident with the Family Practice program under the guidance of Dr (name removed). At the time I was hospitalized and she was making the rounds, but she was always first to come to my room to check in on me and share some friendly words and a warm smile. I then asked to be placed under HER care during her tenure until she graduated. I remained with the Family Practice Program until the age of 64 then decided that I required one single Physician to monitor my care rather than seeing someone new every two-three years. Seeing Dr Abueg practicing with PIH in my local area, it was a no-brainer to request a switch of locations/Primary Care Providers. I am thoroughly pleased with Dr Abueg and have had my younger Sister switch over from the Family Practice Center to Dr Abueg's care as well.

Yes, I had surgery a week ago, Thursday, and I was told upon leaving the hospital to call, make an appointment, and see my physician within two weeks, and that is not possible. That's why this physician that they assigned to me really basically didn't know what was wrong with me.

How was our experience? Always an excellent one! I changed providers for my son years ago, bringing him from peds to this family practice office. It was the best decision for us. My son, now turning 16, isn't resistant to seeing any provider. He feels comfortable, feels heard and respected. I was very comfortable with Dr. Erika. I opened up to her about some concerns I had that I hadn't felt comfortable bringing up before and she listened carefully and validated my concerns. After the consultation, and after she had left the room, I remembered a question I had forgotten to ask and she was so gracious and walked back into the room with me and washed her hands and addressed my question. That made me feel very much seen and heard. I really felt she took her time with me and it's appreciated.

Im a senior who had concerns and questions and the provider made me feel that they were not valid. I wouldn't be in a doctors office if I felt healthy, The provider was giving off a feeling of just get them in and out very cold. Its a shame because this office was considered outstanding years back. My mother who passed at 92 was treated well and with dignity, respect and good health care.

I would really like to give kuddos to the medical assistant who roomed me . She was very professional and kind. However , the doctor was not . She did not have great bedside manners nor I think she treated me with respect. From the start I could already tell it was not going to be a good experience . The doctor walked in and rolled her eyes , had very little eye contact , everything I would say she would say "oh I see " . Everything I would say would seem to bother her . Last year I was part of family practice on Whittier and this seems to be a common thing between these doctors - they don't care and the patient seems to be a bother . I was hoping by moving to Family Practice on Lambert things could be different and possibly have more pleasant experiences, but that was not the case with this provider. PIH is very big on patients first, but this is not the case with these family practice offices. It took me months to get an appointment for my blood pressure issues . This must change in order to change health outcomes.

Have new insurance desk did not understand it. Did not seem willing to help out to clarify it. Had me sign waiver stating insurance was not able to be verified. Was not too happy with her response. Mentioned I spoke with a (name removed) at PIH who said I did not talk to her but how would I know her name if I did not. Hopefully PIH can resolve this matter. Thank you.
