Jed Castillo MD is a general surgeon who specializes in diseases related to the abdominal wall, hernias, stomach, gall bladder, appendix, small intestine, colon, thyroid, parathyroid, skin and soft tissue, as well as vascular access. Having a mother who is a critical care and recovery nurse, Dr. Castillo was exposed and drawn to medicine at a young age. He finds medicine to be a very rewarding career and surgery allows him to work together with his patients to heal and make an immediate difference in their lives. During his residency program, he was awarded the Gold Humanism Resident Award, Excellent Resident Award in General and Minimally Invasive Surgery, and was Administrative Chief General Surgery Resident. He is certified in daVinci Robotic Surgical System and SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) Laparoscopy and Endoscopy. Dr. Castillo trained at Vidant Medical Center in North Carolina, a very high-volume, high-acuity tertiary care center, which was responsible for a third of the state’s population and gave him great exposure to the benefits of general surgery as well as its inherent risks and complications. He appreciates the diversity in general surgery because he is not confined to treating one part of the body and it also allows him to treat a wide variety of patients.

Dr. Castillo is originally from New Jersey and his patients would be surprised to learn that he lost almost 90 pounds during medical school through proper diet and lifestyle changes. He enjoys snowboarding, swimming, hiking, and especially travelling the world with his family.

They are all kind and very experienced to what they are doing, and they really explain to me, you know, they really explain to me every detail of the service that they are going to do. You guys did really good. I was great for giving the time that I had. And the only thing I would say is more than one person should be able to do the schedule, maybe a backup person. I know resources are sometimes limited and that is all I have to say. Thank you. It was a great experience.

The healthcare staff was exceptionally good and Dr. Castillo was great. He has a great bedside manner and explained everything well and really seems to care. The only issue I had was with the admission, which took exceptionally long. I was scheduled to be there at 7:30 for a procedure at 9:30 and because of the admission process, which was very inefficient, I didn't actually get the procedure until 11:20 a.m. Otherwise, the experience was a very good one.

The whole experience was great! All of our providers are at PIH and we love them. It's a thirty minute drive for us, but having good and caring doctors is more important to us than convenience.

I was very pleased with how quickly I saw the doctor and the kind attention of the person who took my vital signs, and especially with the doctor's professionalism, patience, and care. He listened attentively to all my explanations. I definitely give Dr. Jed Castillo a 10 out of 10.

Hi, yes, I'm new to LA and I ended up in the emergency room. And then I was admitted to the hospital for five days. And in a scary moment, Dr. Castillo was able to really calm me down after so much information was coming my way. And everything's done. I looked into who Dr. Castillo was and what his reviews were, what people were saying, what the nurses, like what the staff were saying about him. And then I decided I couldn't go with any other doctor to have my surgery with. So I just want to say thank you, Dr. Castillo, for making me feel better about the hands that are going to be working on my body. So thank you.

Everyone was nice and helpful from the moment I stepped in, from security to check in to getting the procedure. Each medical staff who assisted me explained what was going to happen and what I should expect. I told myself if ever I will have to be hospitalized, I want it at PIH.
