PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital received the Target: Stroke™ Elite Plus award for meeting quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.

This conference is organized to provide an overview of recent updates and discuss practical issues surrounding the delivery of state-of-the-art stroke care. Through formal lectures, case presentations, and interactive discussions, this comprehensive stroke conference will explore critical issues surrounding the assessment, management, treatment, and prognosis of stroke in the acute, sub-acute and non-acute settings.

Educational Objectives

  • Identify best practices in acute and post-acute treatment for stroke
  • Examine the latest advances in critical care, surgical management, and endovascular intervention of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke patients
  • Review the role of multidisciplinary care in stroke
  • Appraise the diverse challenges in the care of stroke patients from various cultural backgrounds
  • Review the role of the stroke coordinator in the continuum of stroke care

Target Audience

This course is designed to meet the educational needs of: adult neurologists, neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, internists, intensivists, emergency medicine physicians, primary care physicians, and radiologists, as well as fellows in training, advanced practice stroke nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists, and registered nurses with a special interest in acute stroke management and treatment.


PIH Health Whittier Hospital is an approved provider for continuing education hours for Nursing through the California Board of Registered Nursing, BRN Provider Number 00261. 8.0 hours of continuing education will be provided for the full day of attendance.

Nadeem Chishti MD
Dr. Nadeem Chishti is a pulmonologist and intensivist affiliated with PIH Health Hospitals in Whittier and Downey. He received his medical degree from Punjab Medical College, University of Health Sciences Lahore. He completed his residency at LAC + USC Medical Center. After finishing his residency he served as Chief resident for one year at USC. He did fellowship in pulmonary and critical Care medicine at University of California Medical Center Irvine. After finishing his fellowship he joined PIH Health. Dr. Chishti is board certified in Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Internal Medicine, and Sleep Medicine. Dr Chishti has been providing compassionate care in a hospital setting and private practice for over 24 years. He has been the director of critical care the last 14 years. He is also director of Respiratory services and holds a prestigious Medical Management degree MMM from USC Marshall School of business.

Sabeen Dhand MD
Sabeen Dhand is an interventional radiologist at PIH Health Whittier Hospital. After completing his training at Northwestern in 2015, he moved back home to start his career. PIH Health Interventional Radiology is a robust, clinically-driven practice covering the entire scope of minimally invasive image guided procedures (MIIPS), with focus on peripheral arterial disease, aortic disease, interventional oncology, and neurovascular intervention. During his early career, Sabeen developed a strong interest in limb salvage/CLI, stroke intervention, and social media. Sabeen hopes to further the field not only through education to other healthcare peers, but also raise awareness to the general public via social media and other platforms.

Gautam Ganguly MD
Dr. Ganguly completed his undergraduate school and medical school at the University of Calcutta in India. He completed his residency in neurology and a fellowship in epilepsy and neuromuscular diseases at the University of Southern California. He is board certified in electrodiagnostic medicine in the subspecialty of vascular medicine, the subspecialty of behavioral neurology & neuropsychiatry and subspecialty of sleep medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, American Association and American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Shao-Pow Lin MD
Dr. Lin joined Lambert Radiology Medical Group in 2017 after a distinguished career in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was affiliated with multiple hospitals including Mountain View Hospital, Southern Hills Hospital and Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and St. Rose Dominican Hospitals. Dr. Lin currently practices at PIH Health Whittier Hospital. He graduated from Stanford University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. His post-graduate education continued at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where he received the degrees of Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy in 2002. Dr. Lin completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri in 2007, after which he also completed additional fellowship training in both Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology in 2009. Dr. Lin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and has been board certified since 2007. In 2009 Dr. Lin received the Certificate of Added Qualification in Neuroradiology. His primary clinical interest is in acute stroke intervention. Most of his weekends are spent cheering on their boys’ soccer teams, volunteering as a referee, or working with Boy Scouts.

Mohsin Shah MD
M. Mohsin Shah, is a multi-faceted neurosurgeon with extensive training and unique skills. He received his medical degree from the University of Peshawar. He underwent residency training in Neurology at the University of California – Irvine. Pursuing his interest in stroke and neurotrauma, he completed fellowships in neurocritical care at the University of California – Los Angeles and Interventional Neuroradiology at Portland Neurovascular Center in Portland, Oregon. He subsequently pursued formal neurosurgery residency at the University of Louisville where he gained extensive experience in complex spine surgery with renowned surgeons at the Leatherman Spine Institute and a fellowship in Cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at the renowned Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington. He is board certified in Neurology and board eligible in Neurosurgery. His practice encompasses neurotrauma, Stroke, and complex brain and spine surgery.
