Heart Stress Tests
Your heart health is our priority at PIH Health Heart and Vascular Center. A heart stress test helps cardiologists evaluate how well your heart functions when it is working harder than usual. By carefully monitoring your heart during exercise or with medication, we can detect signs of coronary artery disease, irregular heart rhythms, or other cardiac conditions—allowing us to create a care plan tailored to you.
Types of Heart Stress Tests
Stress Echocardiogram (Stress Echo)
A stress echocardiogram combines ultrasound imaging with exercise or medication to see how your heart muscle responds during periods of increased demand.
This test allows our care team to:
- Assess whether blood flow to the heart muscle is adequate
- Detect areas of the heart that may not be receiving enough oxygen or blood
- Evaluate overall heart function, including heart valves
This noninvasive test provides detailed images that help guide diagnosis and treatment decisions.
Stress Nuclear Test
A stress nuclear test uses a small amount of safe radioactive material to create images showing blood flow to the heart muscle at rest and during stress.
This test helps determine:
- Whether your heart receives enough blood and oxygen during physical activity or stress
- The location and severity of blocked or narrowed arteries
- If there is evidence of previous heart muscle damage from a heart attack
- The most appropriate next steps for your heart care
Stress nuclear testing is highly effective for identifying coronary artery disease and guiding treatment decisions.
