Imaging Tests
Your heart health matters—and so does your peace of mind. At PIH Health, we use advanced, noninvasive imaging tests to give your care team a detailed view of your heart’s structure and function. These tests help detect potential issues early, guide treatment decisions, and ensure you receive the best care possible.
Our imaging specialists are here to make your experience comfortable, quick, and stress-free. With state-of-the-art equipment and expert technologists, you are in great hands every step of the way.
Our Heart Imaging Tests
CT Angiogram (CTA)
A CT angiogram uses advanced X-ray technology and contrast dye to create a three-dimensional picture of the heart and arteries. This test can reveal blockages, narrowing, aneurysms, calcium deposits, or other concerns in a noninvasive setting that requires only the insertion of a peripheral IV.
What to Expect:
- A comfortable, noninvasive test
- Quick scan time, usually less than 30 minutes
- Clear, detailed images to guide treatment decisions
Cardiac MRI
Cardiac MRI uses powerful magnets and radio waves, without radiation, to provide highly detailed images of the heart’s structure and function. It is especially helpful for detecting heart muscle disease, scarring, or congenital heart conditions.
Benefits:
- No radiation exposure
- Noninvasive imaging that requires only the insertion of a peripheral IV
- Safe and painless
Doppler Ultrasound
Doppler ultrasound uses sound waves to measure how blood flows through the heart and blood vessels. This safe and painless test provides important information about circulation in peripheral vessels and heart valve function.
Benefits:
- No needles and no radiation
- Real-time blood flow imaging
- A quick and comfortable test
Echocardiogram (Echo)
An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart that shows its size, structure, and how well it pumps. This test is often the first step in evaluating heart health and detecting conditions such as valve disease or heart failure.
Why It Is Helpful:
- Noninvasive and widely used
- Clear images of heart structure and function
- Often completed in under an hour
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan
A PET scan combines nuclear medicine with a CT scan to assess blood flow and the severity of heart muscle damage. It is one of the most accurate ways to differentiate between permanently damaged heart tissue and viable but underperforming heart muscle.
Key Benefits:
- Highly accurate results
- Detects early signs of heart disease
- Painless and well tolerated
Putting You at the Heart of Care
At PIH Health, we combine clinical expertise, advanced imaging technology, and compassionate care to help you feel confident about your heart health. Your doctor will discuss which imaging test is right for you and explain every step so you feel informed and at ease.
Depending on your symptoms or condition, your doctor may recommend an imaging test to show how your heart and blood vessels are working.
Imaging tests may include:
- Coronary angiogram, which uses cardiac catheterization and contrast dye to visualize blood vessels using specialized X-ray imaging
- Cardiac magnetic resonance angiogram (MRA), a noninvasive test that creates detailed images of the heart’s arteries without radiation or conventional contrast dye
