Curriculum and Rotations

Our residency is structured in 4-week block rotations (13 per year), providing a balanced mix of inpatient, outpatient, and elective experiences. Each year builds on the last, with progressive responsibility, leadership opportunities, and exposure to subspecialties.

PGY-1 Intern Year:

  • Inpatient Medicine – 4 months
  • Night Block – 1 month
  • Surgery – 1 month
  • Labor & Delivery – 2 months
  • Emergency Medicine – 1 month
  • Outpatient Pediatrics – 1 month
  • Inpatient Pediatrics – 1 month (at MemorialCare Miller Children’s Hospital, Long Beach)
  • Outpatient Family Practice – 1 month
  • Elective– 1 month

PGY-2

  • Emergency Medicine – 1 month
  • Women’s Health – 1 month
  • Geriatrics – 1 month
  • Outpatient Pediatrics – 1 month
  • Inpatient Pediatrics – 1 month (at MemorialCare Miller Children’s Hospital, Long Beach)
  • ICU – 1 month
  • Dermatology – 1 month
  • Night Block – 1 month
  • Sports Medicine – 1 month
  • Electives – 4 months
    Includes intermittent call responsibilities

PGY-3

  • Internal Medicine Seniors – 2 months
  • Night Block – 1 month
  • Mental Health – 1 month
  • Women’s Health – 1 month
  • Outpatient Family Practice – 1 month
  • Orthopedics – 1 month
  • Urgent Care – 1 month
  • Electives – 5 months
    Includes intermittent call responsibilities

Sports Medicine Track

Designed for residents with a strong interest in pursuing a sports medicine fellowship, this track integrates advanced training into the core curriculum. Selection begins in the first year for residents in good standing. No prior commitment is required at the time of residency application.

Highlights include:

  • Attendance at the AMSSM National Conference
  • Opportunities for research with time and resources provided
  • High school sports event coverage
  • Away rotations in specialized fields
  • 10 elective blocks (PGY-1 to PGY-3) dedicated to high-yield rotations

Core Rotations: Sports Medicine, Orthopedics, Radiology, Rheumatology, Dermatology
Additional Rotations: Neurology, Cardiology, Urgent Care
