PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital
New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) Residency Program
The New Graduate Registered Nurse Residency Program was created to provide ongoing clinical and personal support to first-year nurses in practice. The program gives new graduates a forum to share thoughts, feelings, concerns, and clinical experiences. Through the process of sharing, new graduates are empowered with the understanding that the challenges experienced during transition from school to practice are “normal.”
PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital’s New Graduate RN Residency Program is a 12- month cohort model offered four times a year. The goals are to:
- Assist new graduate RNs in their transition into the RN role
- Establish the delivery of high-quality and safe patient care while exhibiting PIH Health's core values
- Enhance clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and clinical judgment
- Support continuous professional development
RN Fellowship Pathway
The RN Fellowship Pathway Program offers nurse residents who have completed the New Graduate RN Residency Program an opportunity to further expand their skills by transitioning into a new nursing specialty. Fellowship participants receive additional training and support as they move into areas such as the Emergency Department (ED), Critical Care, Perinatal Services, and Perioperative Services. This program ensures a smooth, supported transition into specialty practice areas available at PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital.
The fellowship includes:
- Use of online learning modules and educational programs designed to enhance skills and knowledge in the selected specialty, covering various aspects of nursing care
- Unit-based orientation with experienced preceptors to guide hands-on clinical training
- Continued professional development and mentorship throughout the program
- Integration into the unit's team and workflow to build confidence and competence in the new role
