Vaccination Health Order

Proof of Vaccination Required for Hospital Visitors

August 27, 2021

The California Department of Public Health issued a state order requiring all hospital visitors to provide proof of vaccination status or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours prior to entering the hospital. To comply with these state requirements and to help keep our community healthy, PIH Health will be adopting the following procedures. We wanted to share them with you should you visit one of our hospitals in the near future.

Visitors will only be allowed to enter by showing one of the following:

  • Vaccination card, photo of a vaccination card, vaccination passport, photo of a vaccination passport (must include visitor’s name, and date of each vaccination).
  • Hard or digital copy of a negative COVID-19 test result in which the test was taken less than 72 hours prior to entrance (must include the visitor’s name and date of test).

In addition, please be aware of the following:

  • Visitors accompanying a patient to an Outpatient Department located within the hospital, but with a separate entrance, including the Emergency Department, will be required to drop off the patient at the Outpatient Entrance, then enter through the Main Entrance for screening and badging, before returning to the Outpatient Department.
  • Visitors must wear a surgical mask supplied by PIH Health (which may be worn over their own mask). Masks must remain in place throughout the entire visit.
  • Visitors must physically distance themselves from all healthcare providers.
  • Exemptions to these visitation guidelines include adults accompanying a minor child or disabled individual, a labor coach with imminent delivery, or end of life situation.

These revised guidelines have been implemented at all three PIH Health hospitals (in Downey, Los Angeles and Whittier) so please include them in your plans for any future visits.

Proof of vaccination status or negative COVID-19 test is not required at PIH Health outpatient medical offices. The revised guidelines only apply to hospitals.

Thank you for helping us keep our patients, staff, and community safe. And thank you, as always, for trusting PIH Health with your care.
