Digestive Health

If you have digestive problems, you’re not alone. More than 70 million Americans are affected by digestive disorders, such as bowel problems and disease.

How Digestion Works

Your digestive system is made up of multiple organs including esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, small intestines, and colon. These organs work together to break food and fluids into nutrients your body can use to maximize caloric intake and fluid hydration. Waste products your body doesn’t need are eliminated when you go to the bathroom. Gas, burping and bloating, although sometimes uncomfortable or embarrassing, are a normal part of the digestive process.

A problem with any of the digestive organs can lead to health conditions known as digestive disorders. You may experience symptoms like pain, heartburn or constipation, but some disorders have no obvious symptoms or causes. Brief digestive symptoms may be related to dietary, behavioral, or environmental causes and may not require medical evaluations. On the other hand, persistent symptoms may be a sign of more serious causes that may need medical attention.

Certain medical issues of grave concern may not have any symptoms, but can be prevented by screening exams. Colon cancer is one such diagnosis of major concern in the United States. Fortunately, screening tests, like colonoscopy, are available and are an important part of taking care of your health.

Gastrointestinal Tests & Treatments

Our team approach to digestive health gives you everything you need. You get care from our highly skilled physicians and sensitive support staff. We coordinate all testing and treatment and communicate with your family doctor and other experts. Your comfort and privacy are important to us. We offer advanced technology, such as a capsule you can swallow to help examine your digestive organs. Many of our procedures are endoscopic, meaning they use a thin, flexible, lighted instrument called an endoscope to see inside the digestive organs.

Procedures include:

  • Bravo capsule pH Studies
  • Colonoscopy (streamline, direct access)
  • Endoscopic hemostasis
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • Esophageal, bile duct and colonic stenting
  • Esophageal dilations
  • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement
  • Polypectomy
  • Upper endoscopy
  • Variceal banding
  • Video capsule endoscopy

Once your tests are completed, your doctor will discuss the results with you and explain your treatment options. We’re committed to developing a treatment plan—including nutrition support—that meets your unique needs and gets you back on track.
