Mammograms are one of the regular screenings recommended to keep women healthy and well. They are used to screen for breast cancer and to help make a diagnosis.

what is a mammogram, when should I get a mammogram

What Is a Mammogram?

It is a low dose x-ray image of the breast that helps identify any unusual lumps or tissue. During the screening, two (or more) pictures are taken of each breast. Your breast will be gently compressed between two flat surfaces in order to get the highest-quality image. PIH Health offers all-digital screenings.

When Should I Get a Mammogram?

Screenings are recommended annually for women beginning at age 40. Your doctor may recommend one at an earlier age if you have risk factors.
