Between the hustle and bustle of the work week, taking care of the kids and everything else that comes with life, our self-care can sometimes take a backseat. Make your self-care a priority by implementing these simple tips:

Get more sleep: Adults need to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Not getting enough sleep? Try to go to bed at the same time each night, avoid naps after 3 pm, stay away from caffeine late in the day and refrain from eating a heavy meal at night. Getting a good night’s sleep will help you feel refreshed and energized for the day.

Drink water: Our bodies are made up of 70 percent water, so drinking enough of it is important to maintain optimal health. Drinking more helps to aid in weight loss, it keeps the immune system strong, it helps the kidneys to better flush out toxins and can even prevent bad breath. All of these can make you feel happier and healthier which contributes to self-care.

Exercise every day: Did you know that just five minutes of physical activity a day will provide a mood enhancement? Exercise is a great self-care activity as it increases our endorphins, improves our physical and emotional health and helps us sleep better.

Read a book: Reading a book for five minutes a day can reduce stress levels significantly. It helps with stress reduction, mental stimulation and improve memory. Reading broadens our imagination and opens our minds to new ideas that will bring us more awareness and creativity.
