  1. Healthy eating habits: Developing healthy eating habits is much easier said than done. For some it may require more discipline than others but the point is to remain consistent. Try to avoid unrealistic diets and just focus on nourishing your body. Remember to drink lots of water, and incorporate veggies and protein in every meal for proper nourishment.
  2. Sleep: It’s more important than most may think. However, an adequate amount of sleep each night contributes to a stronger immune system. A well-rested mind and body can lead to better concentration, more energy throughout the day and is known to help the appearance of skin.
  3. Exercise: Has many positive factors. Not only does it contribute to a stronger physique, but it also releases endorphins which make you feel better. Additionally, those who work out for 30 minutes or more a day lower their risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers.
  4. Reduced Stress Levels: Keeping stress levels at a minimum can have many lasting effects on your health. Those with increased stress levels are at risk for developing diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks or even stroke. While it may not always be possible, it is key to know how to monitor and maintain your stress levels. This can mean walking away from a stressful situation should the opportunity present itself, taking deep breaths to try to calm yourself down or taking a walk outside until you feel better. Other ways to reduce stress are taking on different hobbies such as meditation or yoga. Calling a friend or a loved one to talk it out is also another stress reliever.
  5. Time for Self-care: This can be anything you enjoy doing for yourself. Whether it be a massage, going out with friends or staying in and watching movies, do something that will make you feel better.

Lastly, make sure you stay up to date with your wellness appointments and see your primary care doctor at least once a year. Keep the communication open with your doctor and know how to get in touch should you have any questions or concerns about your health in between visits.
