How Facials Can Help

Woman having a facial

Woman getting a facialMost people don’t think about adding facials to their care regimens. But taking care of your skin has benefits. After all, the skin is the largest organ in the human body, and it shouldn’t be neglected.

Sherri Juranek, a PIH Health medical aesthetician, shares the advantages of incorporating facial treatments into your personal care regimen:

Your Face Will Be Cleaner and Brighter

No matter how hard people try to keep a clean face, buildup–whether that is pollution, dirt, makeup, etc.–still resides on the surface of the skin. A professional facial treatment, which includes: cleansing, steaming and exfoliation can rejuvenate your skin and make your face appear smoother and brighter. If extractions are needed, the aesthetician will safely remove blackheads, clogged pores and pimples during the facial. A targeted treatment mask is applied during a facial to help with one or a mixture of the following: hydration, purifying, moisturizing, calming, firming and brightening.

It’s Good for Anti-Aging

During facials exfoliants are used to remove dead skin cells to help the skin rejuvenate. Often times serums, such as vitamin c and retinols are also used in facials to stimulate collagen production that can help minimize existing and future wrinkles. A moisturizer is also applied to hydrate the skin and prevent dryness. All facial treatments end with a sunscreen to protect the skin from sun damage. .

Bottom line is, facials will leave the face rejuvenated, and will feel smoother, brighter and firmer.

Facials are recommended monthly (for both women and men of all ages) who want to preserve and maintain healthy, youthful looking skin.

It’s Relaxing

Less stress is best. And often offered with a facial treatment is a facial massage, which is a time for rest and relaxation. The treatment may also include a variation of hand, neck, shoulder and arm massages depending on the type of facial you schedule and the facility.

You’ll Learn About Your Skin Type

During facials, the aesthetician typically conducts a skin analysis to assess whether your skin is oily, dry, normal or a combination. The aesthetician then talks to the client about products they are currently using for their skincare regimen and makes recommendations.

If you’d like a more thorough assessment of your skin, PIH Health’s aesthetic services offers a free 30-minute skin evaluation where you can discuss your skin and facial rejuvenation goals with a medically trained and licensed professional (call the number below).
