Have You Heard?

Social Media News

Social Media NewsEveryone knows that most Americans use social media to stay in touch with friends and family around the world, but did you know just how much we’re using it? According to the Pew Research Center*, 79% of online adults use Facebook--nearly four out of five.

What do we use social media for? People log on to Facebook for a variety of reasons--to reconnect with old friends, meet new people, network with business associates or stay up on current events. And most of us--76%--visit the site on a daily basis. And that doesn’t even count the users of Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn and others. Clearly, we’re spending a lot of time on social media.

While none of these stats are necessarily surprising, what you may not know is that more Americans than ever are now using social media platforms to get their news. A recent Pew Research Center study** showed that in 2017, two-thirds of U.S. adults get their news from social media. A full 67%! That’s 55% of people age 50 and over and 80% of people under 50. And we’re checking out all kinds of stories, including those pertaining to healthcare.

This information has clear implications for PIH Health. As part of our mission of “Patients First,” we are constantly trying to provide our patients and those in our service area with the information they need to get and stay healthy. One of the ways we do that is through this blog, but we’re also active on several social media platforms.

So if you are looking for information on treatment options, healthy habits, or exercise and nutrition trends, PIH Health tries to keep you informed with our semi annual magazine, Healthy Living, and through articles and items on our website. But we’re also active on major social media platforms. If you haven’t checked us out, be sure to do so!
