Heel Pain

Plantar Fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain. The condition occurs when the ligament that runs from the ball of the foot through the arch and is attached to the heel becomes aggravated. Women get plantar fasciitis more frequently than men, and your risk increases if you are overweight, as you age, and if you are on your feet for long periods. Plantar fasciitis can also be caused by wearing worn-out shoes, flat feet, or high-heeled shoes, tight Achilles tendons or unusual gaits.
To help ease heel pain, Ken Nguyen DPM, a podiatrist at PIH health suggests:
- Rest
- Ice
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- Stretching and exercise
- Athletic tape to support your foot
- Orthotic arch supports
If pain persists, see a doctor.
