PIH Health Partners with Interfaith Food Center

Interfaith Food CenterPIH Health and Interfaith Food Center (IFC), a nonprofit food pantry, have partnered for many years, identifying creative approaches to meeting the needs of the hungry and homeless in our local communities.

IFC is an active partner in PIH Health’s Health Action Lab, a coalition development project to improve health. IFC is specifically addressing food insecurity (lack of access to healthy food). PIH Health has also contributed funds to help IFC purchase a refrigerated truck, used to pick up donated food. In addition, our care management team provides referrals to IFC as they work to connect patients and families with food resources. And, IFC’s Executive Director is a member of PIH Health’s Community Benefit Oversight Committee.

As one of the largest food pantries in California, IFC serves more than 1,300 households on a weekly basis.

IFC’s programs include:

  • Weekly food distribution for low-income families: Depending on family size, clients may pick up supplemental bagged groceries one to two times per week, which include canned goods, dairy and deli-meats, bread and fresh produce. Must meet income guidelines and reside in Whittier, La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs, or unincorporated Los Angeles County with a Whittier zip code.
  • Homeless sack lunch program (four days a week): Serves the homeless population of Whittier, La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs, and the surrounding communities. Personal care items provided when available.
